LEADING TRADE FAIR ORGANISER IN THE BALTIC STATES

We Invite You to the Popular Riga Christmas Concerts

Just like every year at Christmas, on 25 and 26 December Ķīpsala Hall will host the popular Riga Christmas concerts, where outstanding musicians will present goodness, sincerity and joy – charming opera singer Elīna Shimkus, excellent jazz singer Adamants Kalniņš, and tenor Jānis Kruse’s. Also, one of the best choirs will participate in the concerts – the mixed choir of the Latvian Academy of Culture “Sala”, the experienced Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra, the effervescent ensemble of wind instruments “Live Brass” and the instrumental group Daumants Kalniņš. Kaspars Ādamsons and Andris Veismanis will take the conductor’s role.

Talented musicians, breadth, synthesis of classical and popular music, and positive energy – all of this describes Riga Christmas concerts, which just like the little Christmas fair at Dom’s Square comprise an integral part of the festivities in Riga during the Christmas season. For 11 years already the specially created Christmas programmes have been giving listeners sincere, fair emotions, gathering together popular outstanding artists, among which are actors Dita Lūriņa, Juris Žagars, Gundars Āboliņš, opera singers Sonora Vaice, Egīls Siliņš, Ingus Pētersons, Liene Kinča, soloists Marts Kristiāns Kalniņš, Ingus Ulmanis, Andris Ērglis, Liene Šomase, violinists Raimonds Ozols and Eva Bindare, flautist Dita Krenberga, vocal group “Framest”, Riga Dom cathedral Boys Choir and many, many others. That is exactly why thousands of people – experienced music aficionados, devotees of popular music, as well as simple music fans – attend the celebration concerts in Ķīpsala each year.

Elīna Šimkus extends an invitation: "The Christmas hustle starts too early every year. We are in too much of a hurry, trying too much, and at Christmas Eve we are already tired of Christmas. In order for it not to happen again this year, I invite you to enjoy the beautiful autumn, not to pass by November, and live your Christmas more in the heart and less in the present giving hustle. I wish for you to find time to be with your loved ones, forget the everyday care and hustle for a moment, not to pay so much attention to the gifts, things and property, but to give your soul a present by enjoying a musical Christmas at a beautiful concert".

Part one of this year’s Christmas concert will be devoted to the pearls of classical music – F. Hendelis, J. Puccini, M.A. Charpentier’s musical works, the touching “Estonian Lullaby” of the world-renowned Estonian composer A. Perts, as well as beloved Christmas songs arranged by the composer Valts Pūce. In its turn, in the second part listeners can await an encounter with the compositions and song arrangements created by Daumants Kalniņš and his quintet, which will be supplemented especially for this concert by the Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra and mixed “Sōla”. Along with less heard melodies, the celebration mood will be supplemented by several well-known Christmas songs such as ‘’Jingle Bells’’, “Pār mazo ciemu ielejā’’, as well as the song of Josh Groban which has gained global fame, “You Raise Me Up’’, and the most popular Irish Christmas carol ‘’Fairy Tale of New York’’. The versatile musical score will be supplemented by choreography created by Ieva Kemlere.
