LEADING TRADE FAIR ORGANISER IN THE BALTIC STATES

New charging station for electric cars to open in Kipsala!

In order to reduce environmental pollution and promote environmentally friendly means of transport, a new, publicly accessible charging station for electric cars will open at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre on 13 October. The charging point will be able to charge two cars simultaneously!

Kipsala International Exhibition Centre in collaboration with the Zero Emission Mobility Support Society (BIMAB) will open the charging station for electric cars in which a driver will be able to connect and charge his car free of charge!

"We care about drivers who care about the environment and air quality. Unlike the internal combustion engine driven vehicles, electric car is more nature-friendly! Moreover, while the car is charging, its owner can visit an ongoing fair at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre or drink a cup of coffee in the café located right next to the charging station," told Viesturs Tīle, the Board Chairman of the International Exhibition Company BT 1, and pointed out that one of the big drawbacks to having an electric vehicle is the lack of charging points.

"The charging station at the Exhibition Centre will have two conventional sockets, or charging points, with a charging speed 10-15 km of range per hour. At the new charging station, you can also charge your hybrid electric vehicle. Information about the charging stations will be included in the national charging point map in Latvian and English, as well as in the international resources for EV navigation devices,” explained Arnis Bergs, the Chairman of BIMAB.

The advantage of a small capacity charging point is its availability and location that meets the needs of EV users, e.g. proximity to the city centre, shopping malls, hotels or public buildings. There are 28 EV charging stations in Latvia offering different amounts of power, including the new one in Kipsala; 17 of them are in Riga.

The opening of the new electric car charging station will take place at the International Exhibition Centre at 11.30 on 13 October and will be attended by Kaspars Gerhards, the Minister for Environment Protection and Regional Development, Timurs Safiuļins, the director of the Riga municipal agency “Riga Energy Agency”, Arnis Bergs, the Chairman of BIMAB, Viesturs Tīle, the Board Chairman of the International Exhibition Company BT 1 and Gints Šāvejs, the project manager of “Environment and Energy”.

The charging station is set up and maintained by Kipsala International Exhibition Centre.

The opening event of the charging station is an introductory event of the Baltics’ biggest event in the field of energy efficiency, infrastructure and environmental technology – “Environment and Energy 2016” to be held from 13–16 October at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre. The “Environment and Energy 2016” fair will offer an insight into the latest technology and the most viable solutions for energy efficiency, smart management and green lifestyle. Special attention this year is given to environment-friendly means of transport offering a separate exhibition of electric cars, electric bicycles and charging stations presented by different manufacturers held by BIMAB in collaboration with the Road Traffic Safety Directorate. “Environment and Energy 2016” is held by the International Exhibition Company BT 1.
