Latvian Book Fair 2018 is on its way to readers!
Meet with writers, enjoy authors readings, attend book opening events, get acquainted with new books, take part in creative workshops, swap books or buy them at very attractive prices at Latvian Book Fair 2018 to be held from 23–25 February at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre in Riga.
Latvian Book Fair 2018 will be offering great books for great readers presented by all the major Latvian publishers: Zvaigzne ABC, Janis Roze, Jumava, Pētergailis, Latvijas grāmata, Latvijas mediji, Kontinents, Madris, RaKa, Avots, Upe, Mansards, Dienas grāmata, Liels un mazs, Annele and others. Awaiting Latvia’s Centenary, "Latvian Book Fair 2018" invites you to enjoy an extensive and versatile culture programme – 101 events in three event days held in five different places across the venue – Big Stage, Writers’ Lounge, Fun Reading Room, Uzvedība.lv workshop and Book Exchange Point.
Best-selling authors on the Big Stage
Stakeholders will be welcome to meet the authors, attend author readings and book opening events taking place on the Big Stage. Erling Kagge, an author of the international bestseller “Silence: In the Age of Noise”, will be visiting the Latvian Book Fair 2018 on 23 February. The opening of the English version of Philip Ruff’s “A Towering Flame” will take place on the Big Stage on the first day of a book fair. The authors of Latvian detective fiction will take the stage on 24 February, while the opening of Victor Shklovsky’s “A Sentimental Journey: Memoirs 1917-1922” will be held on 25 February. Visitors will have an opportunity to talk to their favourite authors and get their autographs in a cosy Writers’ Lounge. Latvian poet and playwright Māra Zālīte, journalist and writer Dace Judina, Latgalian poet Raibis, fashion and style expert Žanna Dubska, architect Juris Monvīds Skalbergs and other well-known people will be among the guests of Writers’ Lounge.
Exciting activities in Fun Reading Room
The Latvian Book Fair 2018 will also include a comprehensive programme of events for the most audacious and trusted readers – children. In the Fun Reading Room young readers will have an opportunity to meet the authors and heroes of children’s books like Ruby, little Mula and Coconut, the little dragon, as well as to play developing games, take part in exciting contests, get acquainted with the table manners at Irma Kalniņa’s master class, learn about money and even watch the Puppet theatre performance! During all three event days, Uzdeviba.lv will offer to play behavioural games, to take part in practical, positive workshops on how to understand the causes of child and adult behavioural problems and how to recognise, reduce and prevent problem behaviour in different environments, including at home, school and work, using game and play elements. The participants of Latvian Book Fair 2018 will offer many different activities! Thus, Brain Games will introduce visitors to the world of different games inviting them to discover the shores of Catan, to build the medieval town of Carcassonne and its environs, to race penguins, to save the world, to visit the gold mine with dwarves and saboteurs, or even play a spy game.

More than 4,000 books! – this is the contribution of the Repository Exchange Fund of Riga Central Library to the Book Exchange Point this year. This is the right place to find reading and picture books for children, art books, specialised and reference literature, fiction in Latvian and Russian and other reading stuff in different languages. Everyone is invited to come and bring along books read and no longer needed to swap them for unread ones.
