Get inspiration for upgrading your household and surrounding environment at Design Isle 2018 Between 5-7 October, Ķīpsala will host the international design fair, Design Isle 2018, which will provide the opportunity to view original works by companies and craftsmen, unique pieces by students, and also the work of professionals, all in one place. Over the three days, visitors will be able to purchase various interior items, consult specialists in the field, and find those design accessories that are the most suitable for their households.
A wide range of participants from abroad
At Design Isle 2018, entrepreneurs and manufacturers from the Baltics and other European countries will offer original, creative design items, including lighting fixtures, decors, garments, and various accessories. Products will be presented by well-seasoned specialists, as well as those who have only recently started down their own path through the world of design.
‘There is a large level of interest from foreign companies regarding participation in the fair, and we are already receiving applications for next year’s fair, Design Isle 2019. This year, the fair’s contents will be even more diverse, starting with clothing lines from Spain and wall decors from Portugal and extending all the way to bicycles from Estonia,’ explains Mārtiņš Baltmanis, Design Isle 2018’s project manager.
The Baltic Design Fair will also be taking place for its third year, with brands taking part such as Šmita lampas, Woodflex, Lalita Gallery, Awei, Kabinetto and others. Various accessories, garments, interior items, decors, and other pieces of work will all be available in one place.
Best design work to be determined
The best designers in Latvia will surprise anyone who is present with their own original and creative work, as they will present pieces that have been entered into the Latvian Designers’ Society Award 2018 contest which has been organised by the Latvian Designers’ Society (LDS). The best work to have been created by professionals, as well as those by school and university students, will be gathered together by the LDS for the eleventh time. This year, various works have been submitted in the following categories: item design with this year’s theme, ‘Lighting design (luminaire, lighting fixture, or lamp)’, ‘outdoor (environmental) design’, ‘interior design’, and ‘communication design’, with this year’s theme being ‘Sign design’.
Try out Latvian-made tricycles!
For the first time ever, there will be a ‘Drift Hall’ available in Ķīpsala, providing the opportunity to ride design tricycles that are manufactured in Liepāja. The local company, Wolftrike, will invite visitors to the fair to enjoy breathtaking sensations by riding tricycles that are able to go as fast as 50 km/h. The ‘Drift Hall’ will be perfect for children, as well as adults, and the rides will be free of charge!
Design Isle 2018 will gather together professionals in the field, along with entrepreneurs, NGOs, educational establishments, government institutions, and many others.
