Rhododendrons grown in Latvia

Rhododendron Breeding and experimental nursery “Babīte” will introduce visitors to cultivars and species, that are suitable for Latvian climate.

There will be more than 30 different rhododendron species and cultivars, including the latest ones created at The University of Latvia: ‘Latvijai 100’, ‘Dagnija’, ‘Aleksandra Daniela Ābele’, ‘Ada Lavleisa’, ‘Babītes Mārtiņš’, ‘Bruno Ābele’, ‘Enzo Ābele.

Most popular rhododendron cultivars will also be on sale: ‘Kalinka’, ‘P.J. Mezzit’, ‘April Snow’, ‘Nova Zembla’, ‘Germania’ and ‘Falling Snow’.

Latvijas Universitātes rododendru selekcijas un izmēģinājumu audzētava ”Babīte” dibināta 1980. gadā. Audzētava atrodas priežu mežā, netālu no Rīgas, Babītes pagasta Spilvē. Tās platība ir 11,8 ha. Tā ir vienīgā specializētā rododendru audzētava Baltijas valstīs.

The University of Latvia Rhododendron Breeding and experimental Nursery “Babīte” was founded in 1980. The nursery covers 11,8 ha in a pine forest near Riga, the village of Spilve, Babīte Municipality. This is the only specialized rhododendron nursery in the Baltic States.
