ComfortHome 2020 ? how to save on heating in the long run!
A miser pays twice, as they say. It is worth upgrading the heating system and taking care of the thermal insulation of the dwelling to save on heating in the long run. Here are just a few tips! However, you will get more information at the ComfortHome 2020 exhibition from 2-4 October.
Radiators adjustable for your comfort
Anrijs Tukulis, a project manager at Elektrum Energy Efficiency Centre, who will share experience with apartment and home owners in workshops organised by the Ministry of Economics and the information campaign “Let’s Live Warmer”, recommends to opt for radiators with adjustable temperature control that will pay off in about two years – you will feel comfortable and save money in the long run. By the way, Ideal house temperature, by the way, ranges between 20?C and 22?C in the daytime, and 3-4? less during night hours. Remember, if you adjust a thermostat one degree warmer over the course of a month, it will raise your heating bill by 5%. In fact, you will save only, if you live in a private house, a new multi-apartment project, or a renovated house where individual heat metering is available. If you want to add more comfort and adjust temperature in each room remotely, then smart radiators will be the right choice.
Choose an appropriate heating system
Most of the older generation heating equipment is inefficient, therefore, changing it to a more advanced one will reduce the heating bill in the long run, and it will be more environmentally friendly. Pellet boilers are very popular and one of the most economical, but they require a lot of time and energy, because the burner must be cleaned regularly and the boiler must be cleaned every three months. The fireplace is also one of the most financially advantageous heating options, but it must be refuelled at least once every 24 hours. If you are tired of taking care of your wood stove or pellet boiler, the heat pump will probably be the most suitable option, since it allows you to control the heating remotely, it is environmentally friendly and needs to be serviced just once a year. Moreover, many of the heat pumps operate in reverse, preventing the house from heating up in the summer! Heated floor is another good solution; it distributes heat throughout the room and can reduce the heating bill compared to radiators. There is no one recipe for everyone, so meet and talk to experts at ComfortHome 2020 to choose the solution that suits you best!
Invest in ventilation system!
If you look for a ventilation system, then you’d better choose one that allows fresh air to enter a house without letting cool air affect the inside temperature! Heat recovery ventilation is already widely used in new housing. The stale but warm air is flowing from inside the house; incoming vents bring in fresh air from outside. Air passes through the heat exchange mechanism and the warm air from inside the building heats the fresh cool air from outside without additional energy consumption. To improve the microclimate, heat recovery ventilation systems are most frequently installed in rooms where no more than 10 people are present on a daily basis, but there are also technical solutions for rooms with a higher number of people. By the way, heat recovery ventilation systems will be a mandatory requirement for all new buildings as of 2021.
Choose energy efficient windows
No matter how energy efficient is the heating system of the building, the best result can be achieved with a high-quality thermal insulation. "Around 30-40% of heat loss is through the windows, so it is important to choose energy efficient windows. It will definitely pay off in the long run," tells Ivars Buls, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Association of Window and Door Manufacturers. I. Buls recommends purchasing windows from certified Latvian window manufacturers. If a window fails, it will be easier to fix. When replacing windows, it must be taken into account that there will no longer be the usual air exchange through the gaps between windows and doors. Therefore, in order to avoid the accumulation of condensate and elevated concentrations of carbon dioxide, ventilation of the premises should be considered. You can, of course, use the usual airing out method opening a window, but it is better to choose a ventilation system with a controlled air supply, which will save heat. Just take into account that you need to choose a ventilation system that does not damage a window frame ? do not drill into the window frame, it will lose thermal insulation.
