Finnish design triumphs at Habitus Baltija 2014!

On 5 April, Kipsala International Exhibition Centre presented two exciting fashion events – the Fashion Design Competition The Amber Avant-Garde and the 14th International Competition for Young Fashion Designers Habitus Baltija 2014. The title of the Best Fashion School went to the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (Finland), but the laurels of the Best Designer to its student Anna Alanko.

The winner’s laurels of The Amber Avant-Garde Fashion Design Competition and the main prize – EUR 500 – went to Dominika Losko (competition entry: Rock’n’Amber) from the Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design, Poland.

Habitus Baltija 2014

The title of the Best Fashion School went to the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (Finland) represented by Anna Alanko (collection: SS14) and Antti Peltoniemi (collection: MVP Space Program) who received the certificate for participation in the 9th Fashion Design Competition Fashion Mill to be held in Minsk, Belarus.

The highest evaluation from the jury received the collection SS14 by Anna Alanko from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Anna got the title of the Best Fashion Designer, a certificate of Summer Courses in IED Milan, Italy, and the invitation to take part in the Fashion Week Belarus. Free publicity from the fashion portal Not Just a Label and the invitation to participate in the ERKKI Fashion Show in Tallinn, Estonia, was presented to Antti Peltoniemi.

The second prize and a wonderful opportunity to study at ESMOD Paris was awarded to Reinis Ratnieks (Collection: …) from the Art Academy of Latvia. French designer Paul Marchand particularly noted the considerable talent of Reinis Ratnieks

The 3rd prize and the invitation to participate in the Cracow Fashion Week was awarded to the author of the collection CosmoJesus, Ugne Martinaityte from the Vilnius Academy of Arts (Lithuania). Moreover, Ugne was invited to join the finals of International Fashion Competition Russian Silhouette to be held in Moscow, Russia, next year.

The director of the Centre for Fashion Enterprise Judith Tolley (UK) presented to Varvara Vasilyeva from Ivanovo State Textile Academy (Russia) an opportunity to join the business support programme New Market Entry, London.

The Baltic Times publicity prize went to Eva Borherte from the Art Academy of Latvia (Collection: Motley Earth). Marina Meliksetova from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera received an invitation to participate in the young designer competition Plyos on Volga. Linen Palette to be held in Ivanovo, Russia.

Prestigious jury

The originality of the collections and the quality of works was evaluated by an international jury of acclaimed professionals, chaired by the fashion expert Lara Aragno Gigli (Italy). The panel of judges included the world recognised designers Peter Ingwersen (Denmark), Paul Marchand (France), the popular brand formation and marketing experts Judith Tolley and Heather Melville (Great Britain), the Belarusian designer, the winner of Habitus Baltija 2011 - Leor Gofman (Belarus). Latvian members of the jury were Indra Salceviča, designer of the fashion brand Red Salt, Olga Kolotova, fashion editor of the magazine L’Officiel Latvija and Anita Sedliņa, fashion blogger and fashion editor of the fashion and lifestyle magazine Pastaiga.

As reported earlier, a true passion for fashion was celebrated in Kipsala on 5 April with exciting fashion shows of the 14th Competition for Young Fashion Designers Habitus Baltija 2014 that gathered 53 young fashion designers from 12 countries and the Fashion Design Competition The Amber Avant-Garde that brought together 18 designers who implemented in their competition works the ideas of the Amber Vein theme lines. Both competitions were included in the programme of Riga 2014, the European Capital of Culture.
