Lithuanian designer triumphs in “Habitus Baltija 2015”!
All passions over fashion at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre have settled opening up new horizons and exciting opportunities to many young fashion designers. The title of the Best Young Fashion Designer was awarded to Liucija Kvašyte from Lithuania, but the International School of Costume and Fashion Design in Warsaw, Poland, won the title of the Best Fashion School.
Best Fashion School
Fourteen educational institutions competed for the title of the Best Fashion School. The competition was tough and the panel of judges finally determined the winner – the International School of Costume and Fashion Design. Ms Dace Melbārde, Minister for Culture of the Republic of Latvia, presented to the winner the Habitus Baltija 2015 Grand Prix statuette.
Ewa Torres, a student of the International School of Costume and Fashion Design, for her collection “Leaf Over” got the ESMOD Paris prize – a certificate entitling her to attend the Summer Courses in Paris. The prize was presented by Emmanuelle Bresson, who represented ESMOD Paris in the judges panel of “Habitus Baltija 2015”.
Damian Szczesny, a student of the International School of Costume and Fashion Design, got an opportunity to present his collection “Min Ming Fla” during the Cracow Fashion Week.
Best Young Fashion Designer
A total of 44 young fashion designers took part in the individual competition of “Habitus Baltija 2015”. The title of Best Young Fashion Designer was awarded to Liucija Kvašyte from Vilnius Academy of Art. Her creative–experimental collection "Trip. ‘83–‘13" was about a hot topic in today’s world – harmony with the environment and yourself. She revealed this subject through the father and daughter relationship as fathers can always teach how to respect different opinions and visions, different generations, oneself and the whole world around.
Liucija got the prize from the prestigious European Institute of Design in Barcelona (IED Barcelona) – an opportunity to attend Summer Courses in Barcelona –, and the money prize EUR 500 to cover her travel expenses from the “Habitus Baltija 2015” official car supplier "Renault". As the best young fashion designer simply must have a stylish bicycle, she also received the Electra Fashion Bike worth almost EUR 1000.
Ewa Torres from the International School of Costume and Fashion Design (Collection “Leaf Over”) won the 2nd place and opportunity to take part in the gala shows of the International Young Designers Competition "Russian Silhouette".
The 3rd place winner Anna Tronowska from the Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design (Collection “Score of Looks”) won an opportunity to participate in the International Young Designers Competition "Plyos on Volga. Linen Palette" taking place in Ivanovo Region, Russia.
The opportunity to participate in the fashion and photography festival "Fashion Mill" in Minsk was awarded to Santa Aulmane, a student of the Art Academy of Latvia, who presented her collection “UNPACK”.
The judging panel decided to award one-year paid study opportunities in the International School of Costume and Fashion Design in Warsaw, Poland, to the students of Liepāja Design and Art College – Liene Petrovica and Kims Jevdasejevs.
Favourite’s Prizes
The ERKI Fashion show favourite’s prize – participation in the "ERKI" fashion show in Tallinn, Estonia, went to Anastasia Bobro (Collection "Low Sunday") from Ivanovo State Textile Academy, Russia.
Ms Ellena Strahova, President of the Baltic Fashion Federation, highly appreciated Liucija Kvašyte’s collection “Trip. ’83 - ’13” and Yekaterina Spirova’s collection “Revolution” bestowing both designers with the prize – an opportunity to participate in the Riga Fashion Week showroom.
The "Coffee Inn" favourite’s prize went to Jekaterina Žiguļiča (Collection “The Frost in Spring”) from Riga Technical University, Latvia.
Judging panel – world-renowned fashion experts
Competition collections were evaluated by an international panel of judges chaired by Ms Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Adviser and long-time Senior Designer for H&M from Sweden.
The panel of judges included Emmanuelle Bresson from ESMOD Paris (France); Prof. Claudia Arend from the AMD Academy of Fashion and Design (Germany); Andrej Subarew, Baltic Fashion Award creative director and fashion designer (Germany); Prof. Giovanni Ottonello from the European Institute of Design (Italy); Annika Vītola, International Sales Director of the marketing agency VALD Agency (Denmark).
The judging panel also included fashion experts from Latvia – Indra Miklāva, a fashion designer; Ellena Strahova, President of the Baltic Fashion Federation; Olga Kolotova, a stylist, fashion editor at “Rīgas Viļņi” publishers and co-founder of Riga Fashion & Photo School; Anita Sedliņa, a fashion journalist; Oļegs Zernovs, a fashion photographer.
