Best European CrossFit athletes to compete in Riga!
There is only one month left until “Battle of Riga”, the biggest functional fitness tournament in the Baltics! The best 120 CrossFit athletes from 20 European countries, including 32 Latvian crossfitters, will compete in Kipsala International Exhibition Centre on 17 and 18 June.
"It is a real pleasure that “Battle of Riga”, which takes place for the fourth consecutive year, has apparently developed and grown increasingly popular among participants and fans. The number of participants in qualifying round, as well as the attendance and interest of top level athletes in this tournament has increased tremendously, affirming the quality of event,” tells Mārtiņš Druvkalns, one of the founding fathers of the CrossFit movement in Latvia and director of “Battle of Riga”.
The event to be held in June is, however, only the tip of the iceberg. To get to the final tournament in Riga, participants had to overcome the qualifying round six months ago. More than 500 participants from 25 countries (!) competed to qualify for the competition finals. “Battle of Riga 2017” will be an opportunity to watch the best 120 athletes.
Dynamic and eye-catching
Since functional fitness is dynamic and visually enjoyable, CrossFit is an exciting sport to watch. It includes a wide variety of physical challenges such as weightlifting, cardiovascular endurance and powerlifting. Moreover, athletes most often find out part of their tasks only during the competition and that means that they should adapt quickly to new challenges.
The best athletes will compete in five categories: Sport Class Women, Elite Class Women, Sport Class Men, Elite Class Men and 35+ Men. For your notice, the qualifying round winner in Elite Class Men is Uldis Upenieks (19) from Saldus, who has been seriously taking part in the functional fitness competitions since he was 17 and, now, is going to compete along with the top class athletes. Among the finalists, we will also see athletes from our neighbouring countries – Lithuania and Estonia –, so the competition will be tough and uncompromising.
To make competition even more fun, the organisers promise surprises galore, including guest artist performances, shows, as well as an opportunity to take part in various contests and win valuable prizes from the tournament sponsors.
CrossFit EXPO
Alongside the competition, the organisers offer the thematic exhibition CrossFit EXPO, where both visitors and participants will have an opportunity to see and buy the functional fitness related goods. Read more: www.battleofriga.com
