BRĪDIS PIRMS – dance production by Teiksma just shortly before the Latvian Song and Dance Festival
One of Latvia’s best folk dance groups, Teiksma, invites spectators to an exciting, emotionally charged dance production “Brīdis pirms” (A Moment Before) to be held at Kipsala Hall on 29 June at 20:00, just shortly before the Latvian Song and Dance Festival begins. Choreographer – Jānis Ērglis, director and stage designer – Reinis Suhanovs.
The original 2016 production is returning to entice viewers anew! The production offers a chance to take a peek into the world of mysteries and secrets of the backstage, where mere spectators have no entry, letting them experience the same emotions dancers feel during the dress rehearsal, and see the work put into making the concert a reality. Trying on costumes, braiding hair, warming up before dancing and comical slice of life situations – all of this will be shown in a clever way through dance by the folk dance group Teiksma’s main and middle-age dancers.
“What does a person who is sitting in a numbered seat see of all of this? Poise, smiles, anger, playfulness, pranks – a story told through dance. Could this be a story about a costume that is too short? Only if that is what the choreographer has intended,” is what the dancers themselves have to say about the production.
Along with “Bobu dancis” and “Krustami dejama, krustami lecama” by Jānis Ērglis, which, by the way, will also be performed in the Song and Dance Festival repertoire, and other beloved dances, the production “Brīdis pirms” also includes dance melodies from other nationalities. Only this time the Gypsy dance, the Greek Sirtaki and the French Cancan will be a little different than what we’re used to!
All dancers know – you cannot have a rehearsal without a piano accompanist! That is why musical accompaniment performed by the superb pianist Māris Šērs plays a critical role in the dance production. The original “rehearsal” costumes for dancers are made by the costume designer Evija Dāboliņa. See you backstage at Ķīpsala!
The concert is presented by BT 1 Music.
